First Deputy Speaker Backs Formation Of New Party

Saturday, 14 January 2006

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Freddie Blay says he is part of a group of politicians discussing the possible formation of a new political party. Mr. Blay who is also the CPP MP for Ellembelle told newsmen that the agitation for a new party has become necessary largely due to the failure of the current leadership of the CPP to fulfill the yearning of Ghanaians for a third political force.
He said that the option for a new political party is under consideration. “That option has been there for a while following the delay of the Nkrumahist to unite. It is not so much of the NDC but rather some of us felt if our parties would not unite then let’s form a new one. However, Mr. Freddie Blay wouldn’t mention those behind the idea. Key CPP members including former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, University of Ghana don, Dr. Vladimir Antwi Danso and CPP MP Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom have all denied being linked to the idea.
