CPP sets up disciplinary committee
Accra, Sept. 6, GNA -
The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) has set up a five-member disciplinary committee to deal with matters that would undermine the integrity and internal cohesion of the party. The committee chaired by Mr Riley Poku has Major Agbeko Sedziafa (Rtd), Madam Fati Salifu, Dr F. W. A. Akuffo and Alhaji Gado Mohammed as members would deal with issues referred to it by the Central Committee (CC).
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the General Secretary, Dr Nii Noi Dowuona, the CC condemned actions of some leading members of the party who were nurturing Presidential and leadership ambitions sponsoring cross-regional activities to remove elected party functionaries from office.
The CC said it had also noted with grave concern activities of unrecognisable groups engaged in similar activities.
It stated that such actions constituted acts of indiscipline and a breach of the CPP's provisions on party discipline and basic rules on responsible behaviour hence the need for members to bury their ambitions for the common good of the party.
The statement advised Regional Executives, especially Regional Chairmen, to be mindful of their responsibility bearing in mind the impact of such negative tendencies on the fortune of the party.
The CC said nominations for elected positions had not yet been opened and anybody wishing to contest positions must wait until the appropriate time.
